Con A Crucifissioni, Fabio Ferreri prosegue la sua personale indagine sulle icone dell’identità mediterranea, spirituale e culturale, dando voce a una delle immagini più potenti e universali: la croce. E lo fa con la consueta poetica del frammento, utilizzando materiali recuperati — legno consunto, ferro ossidato — per costruire non una semplice rappresentazione, ma una presenza tangibile, scarna, vibrante.
La croce, spoglia e asciutta, non porta con sé orpelli né figure sacre: è già tutta nella materia, nelle sue cicatrici, nei colori sbiaditi, nel ferro che allude alle braccia aperte. È un Cristo implicito, evocato dalla forma stessa del legno e dall’equilibrio instabile della struttura, come se fosse appena emerso da un naufragio o da un rogo dimenticato.
C’è in quest’opera una spiritualità antica, quasi contadina, e insieme una tensione contemporanea: il dolore e la redenzione non sono esplicitati ma scolpiti nel tempo delle cose. La scelta del titolo in siciliano, La Crucifissioni, non è solo un omaggio alla lingua dell’anima: è un invito a restare vicini alla terra, alla carne, alla storia viva della gente che quella lingua ha parlato nei secoli.
Ferreri conferma il suo talento nel trasformare l’umile in sacro, l’oggetto in simbolo, la ferita in memoria. Un’opera piccola per dimensioni ma immensa per intensità emotiva.

With A Crucifissioni, Fabio Ferreri continues his exploration of Mediterranean spiritual and cultural identity through one of the most powerful and universal symbols: the cross. True to his poetics of the fragment, he constructs this piece using salvaged materials — weathered wood and oxidized iron — not to simply represent, but to evoke a presence: raw, essential, and deeply resonant.
This is not a conventional crucifix. The work is stripped of any iconographic representation of Christ — it is in the very grain of the wood, in the patina of time, in the iron suggesting outstretched arms, that the pain and mystery of the crucifixion unfold. The sculpture feels like a relic from a forgotten wreck, or a sacred object unearthed from the ashes of memory.
There is an ancient, almost rural spirituality embedded in the piece — yet it pulses with a contemporary tension. Redemption is not narrated but inscribed in the scars of the material. The use of the Sicilian title La Crucifissioni is not merely a linguistic choice — it roots the work in a place, a people, and a history that speaks through silence.
Once again, Ferreri reveals his unique ability to transform the humble into the sacred, the found object into timeless symbol, and the wound into testimony. A small sculpture in size, yet vast in emotional and symbolic impact.
