Nero di Franco Natalini è molto più di un’opera pittorica: è una massa viva, una tensione in atto, un sussurro geologico che parla la lingua della lava. In questa tela, che sembra emergere direttamente dal cuore roccioso dell’isola di Pantelleria, si avverte l’eco della pietra nera – quella stessa ossidiana che ha valso a Pantelleria il nome di Perla Nera del Mediterraneo.

Come la roccia vulcanica dell’isola, l’opera è aspra, tagliente, misteriosa. Natalini, pittore del Gratosoglio, lavora la materia come un artigiano arcaico: strappa, incide, plasma. Ogni piega sulla tela diventa una fenditura del tempo, una mappa segreta, un cratere interiore. Il nero qui non è assenza, ma profondità: uno spazio sacro dove le forme prendono vita in modo selvatico, imprevedibile.

L’ombra si fa sostanza. Un’energia compressa vibra sotto la pelle della tela. Si può leggere un cavallo, un corpo, una lotta, ma anche il vuoto che ogni figura tenta di riempire. In questa opera, la periferia urbana di Gratosoglio e il magma arcaico di Pantelleria si incontrano, si fondono, si sfidano.

Un’opera potente, ruvida, che non concede scorciatoie interpretative ma pretende attenzione, ascolto, rispetto.

Nero by Franco Natalini is far more than a painting: it is a living mass, an active tension, a geological whisper that speaks the language of lava. The canvas seems to rise directly from the volcanic heart of Pantelleria, echoing the island’s black stone – the same obsidian that has earned Pantelleria its title as the Black Pearl of the Mediterranean.

Like the island’s dark rock, the work is harsh, sharp, enigmatic. Natalini, a painter rooted in Gratosoglio, shapes matter like an ancient craftsman: tearing, carving, molding. Every crease on the canvas becomes a fissure in time, a secret map, an inner crater. Black here is not emptiness, but depth – a sacred space where forms are born wild and uncontained.

Shadow becomes substance. A compressed energy pulses beneath the skin of the painting. One might glimpse a horse, a body, a struggle – or the void that every form seeks to overcome. In this work, the urban outskirts of Gratosoglio meet and merge with the primeval magma of Pantelleria.

A powerful, uncompromising work that offers no easy answers but demands presence, attention, and reverence.
